We have received quite a few letters from mountain travelers who were wondering about the cuisine in Kyrgyzstan. We keep receiving letters with similar questions, so, rather than replying to everyone individually, we believe that it would be a good idea to provide some useful information about the food during mountain trips and cuisine issues in Kyrgyzstan so that every traveler interested could read it on the site.

plovThose considering Kyrgyzstan as their mountain travel point should not worry at all about the kyrgyz food. The options are plentiful. If you are one of the travelers who would like to taste the national cuisine, there are many wonderful cafes serving national Kyrgyz cuisine. Kyrgyz cuisine, as most food in Central Asia is comprised of meat, mainly of lamb, although beef is also wide-spread. Foreigners are often astounded by the amount of meat Kyrgyz people eat, there’s a humorous saying which is: Kyrgyz people are second after wolves in consuming meat

kuurdakSo, the lovers of meat will be pleasantly surprised as meat is always fresh and delicious. We’ve asked our travelers to comment on the meat dishes they’ve tasted in Kyrgyzstan and all of them emphasized the amazing quality and taste of fresh meat. They are used to eating frozen meat back home, and according to them, there’s a world of difference between the fresh meat and the frozen one. Well, they surely know better, since we aren’t used to eating frozen meat products in Kyrgyzstan;)

Around 60% of cafes in Kyrgyzstan serve European cuisine, the selection of dishes is wide, and you can be sure you’ll always pick something you like.

To name a few: Fatboys, American Pub or Navigator – places where truly American cuisine is served. There are also quite a few restaurants where you will taste Italian cuisine, French cuisine, Turkish cuisine, Russian cuisine. Dine there and you’ll feel like you’ve never left home.

shashlykIt goes without saying that we normally talk over the food preferences of our customers before they arrive. When in the mountains, we cook in nature, of course under these circumstances we can’t guarantee all the amenities of a luxury restaurant or a café, but after a long walk in nature, the food cooked in the mountains would usually taste like the best meal you’ve ever tasted.

When at Issyk-Kul Lake or at mountain resorts, we usually stay at resorts or resthouses. They are well-equipped and have the best dining facilities. Some dishes can be cooked to order or tailored to your specific food preferences.

To sum up, Kyrgyzstan is the country that has become a tourist destination for people from all over the world. They are all the amenities to accommodate and satisfy even the most sophisticated food lovers. If you have specific food preferences that you feel are not outlined in this article. Feel free to write to us and we’ll gladly answer your questions or contact us at www.HighMountainTrip.com.
